Game Art Challenge Viewer
Last Updated: January 8, 2008

3D Attack is a website that's dedicated to helping 3D artists using MAXON Cinema4D, notably it includes a discussion forum where you'll find me posting under the name HiggyB. Recently the folks behind the website have decided to encourage their forum users to create models for run-time use in games by hosting Game Art Challenges. These challenges ask entrants to create specific types of model assets while limiting texture size and poly counts to again reinforce the goal of making models appropriate for use in a run-time engine. To date there have been seven challenges in all and I'm sure that many more are on the way.

I like the idea and so I thought I'd help out by creating a web-based viewer application to display the various contest entries in a web browser, and of course I made that viewer application with Unity. I've created a simple viewer application that displays entries for six of the seven challenges so far, at least those entrants that posted a ZIP file of their Cinema4D project. I will continue to update the viewer application when new challenges are created or when new entries get posted, I may also update the viewer with new features and bug fixes as necessary. Please stay tuned for updates, but for now enjoy the viewer application and the great artwork it displays!

*Requires the Unity Web Player, version 2.0 or higher (player detection will be performed when you load the viewer).

To-Do List
I'm not done with this project, the three most immediate features I want to add are:
  • Panning controls (pan left/right, up/down)
  • Mouse click/drag to rotate the scene
  • Caching of downloaded artist avatars
But even beyond those some models aren't texturing correctly and some other issues so I have to work with folks to get those sorted as well. Of course I'm also open to bug reports, suggestions and requests as well, let me know if you have any to share.
